Untangling a topic thread with many good (but different) ideas
From StcWiki
In a forum (bulletin board system) the dialogue in a topic often veers in interesting directions that are not immediately relevant to or within the scope of the original subject. When this happens, significant information and ideas may not receive the attention they deserve and may be hard to find in the future. Each member of the Forum can take action to correct the situation.
To untangle a topic thread:
- Based on the nature of the significant new ideas and information, choose an appropriate forum in which a topic on that subject should be discussed.
- Post a new topic in that forum having to do with the new subject. Use a meaningful title and include a link back to the post that first brought up the new subject, with the name of the person who posted it (for example, "Destry Wion brought up a significant point here," where "here" is a link to the original post).
- Go back to the original topic where the new subject was first mentioned and reply with a message that explains and includes the link to the new Topic.
