[edit] Code block can't stay as is

Destry 19:06, 20 August 2007 (UTC) : With the coming skin/layout change, a mile-wide code block like this OPML file just won't work. Other presentational suggestions are welcome, but at this point I think a simple uploaded text file will have to work. When it needs edited, people download the file, make the necessary change, and reupload the file to the files list to replace the old one.

  • Rather than simply showing the code (which isn't overly helpful), could you install/configure the rss module so that the page would actually serve the opml feed -- this way folks could subscribe to it (rather than forcing users to (1) download the file (2) place it on their sever (3) and then subscribe. --Ricks 14:36, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
    • This can go, and await a better solution -- and maybe a maintainer. As usual, I was trying to get something started and hoping someone would run with it. OPML is an XML format intended for outlines. It's not widely used, but is so far the usual way to share a collection of feeds. There's no real assurance that any reader apps know what to do with it, though some do. The OPML discussed here is simply an export of how I tend to organize my own stuff -- though I've changed lately.

The best outcome is that some interested person who maintains a comprehensive list of STC feeds in their own reader will occasionally export to OPML (assuming their reader can do that) and upload here. Then maybe a visitor whose reader also can import a collection of feeds as OPML will be pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to add them all. But we can't warrant that it will work. There's no standard here.
