Keeping your email address private

You can choose whether your email address can be viewed by other users and whether other users can send you email via the Forum's secure email form. It's recommended you use the default settings, which provide the greatest security.

To view or change your email settings:

Log in to the Forum and click the Profile link in the top menu bar.
On the Profile menu, click Privacy.

There are three privacy options related to email:

Display your email address - This option is not recommended, because it displays your email address publicly, which allows it to be harvested by spammers.

Hide your e-mail address but allow private e-mail via the forum - This is the default and recommended option. Your email address remains private, but the Forum software can use it to create a Forum mail form that logged in members can use to contact you. You can post your Forum email form as a link for Forum members to contact you. If you want non-members or members who are having trouble logging in to be able to contact you, you must place your email address directly in your post.
