Instructions for Starting Community Pages

To create a community "index" page listed alphabetically on the Communities page and subpages:

Identify the name of your chapter or SIG as you want it to be alphabetized, for example, "Europe SIG" or "Puget Sound Chapter" or "University of Washington Student Chapter." Don't start the name with "STC."
Click the link for your username in the Personal tools section in the left navigation to open your User page; you'll want to open the page in a new window to keep these instructions visible.
Type the name of your chapter or SIG in double square brackets and click Save page.
Click the link you just created to open your chapter or SIG page for editing.
Add any content you wish to your index page, and create links to additional pages to add content as you wish.
If you'd like to add the category tags, follow the steps below. If you prefer the wiki team add the category tags, click Save page.
Delete the starter link from your User page from step 1 if you want to.

Steps to add the category tags to a community page

Find a page for a chapter in your category (US, International or Student) or a SIG in the Communities lists and click the link to open that page; open it in a separate window.
Click the Edit tab and find the line with the text "Category tags - DO NOT DELETE!" Copy that line and everything below it.
Paste the lines you copied at the bottom of your chapter and SIG page and DO NOT DELETE them at any time.
Click the Cancel link for the chapter or SIG page you opened to find this markup.
Click Save page and close the other windows you have open.

Note that the category tags for a chapter, SIG, or student chapter should look like this when your page is open for editing:

US Chapter:
 [[category:Communities]][[category:STC US Chapters]]

International Chapter:
 [[category:Communities]][[category:STC International Chapters]]

SIG:
 [[category:Communities]][[category:STC Special Interest Groups]]

Student chapter:
 [[category:Communities]][[category:STC Student Chapters]]
