Help:Changing a User's Status to Sysop

From StcWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

[edit] Overview

Sometimes it's necessary to give someone a higher level of privileges in the wiki (e.g., for advanced editing reasons). The wiki admin is not the only one that has to do this; anyone with Sysop status can give someone else Sysop status. However, just so it's somewhat regulated sensibly, the acting wiki editor (probably Ann L Wiley) should be the only one changing user roles.

[edit] Process

We assume the person already has an account.

  1. Go to special:Specialpages, and scroll to the very bottom to the Restricted Special Pages section. (Note: you can only see this section if you are already a wiki Sysop!) Click the User Rights Management link.
  2. In the User Rights Management page, enter the person's username for the account you want to upgrade. Then click the Edit User Groups button.
  3. In the Available groups options, click the Sysop option, and then click the Save User Groups button. (Disregard the Bureaucrat and "bot" options.)

That's it. The person is now a "Sysop" and can do advanced editing like lock pages, roll back pages, block IP addresses (as if), make other people Sysops, etc.

One of the links in special:Specialpages is the Users List page. If you click that page you'll get a list of all users (people with accounts). Anyone with "(Bureaucrat, sysop)" next to their name has Sysop status.
