Our client produces and sells technologically advanced solutions for applications in e-Manufacturing. They have an in-house technical publication team which produces mainly technical overviews, online helps, developer and reference guides (APIs). They have a strong team-oriented philosophy which extends to close cooperation with programmers, developers and technicians.

They are currently seeking an experienced Technical Translator from German into English. This post runs from 1 October 2008 to 30 September 2009, with possibilities for renewing.
As a member of the Technical Publication team, your tasks will include:

  • Translating technical documentation (online guides, manuals, etc.) for various products from German into English.
  • Research and define terminology in cooperation with technical and product managers.
  • Provide quality control for translations made by external suppliers.
  • Perform linguistic analysis and correct interface errors in software modules.

Your audience will be Systems Integrators and similar technically qualified readers. All material must be written with a view to localisation.

Your experience
You must be an EU citizen or hold a regular work permit for Italy. In addition we require:

  • Degree in translation or language studies.
  • Degree or strong experience in a technical area (engineering, information technology…)
  • Microsoft Office product use in both German and English
  • Advanced Trados skills.
  • Advaned Catalyst and RC-Wintrans.
  • Basic familiarity with RoboHelp X7.
  • Native English speaker.
  • At least three years experience in the field.

Also desired

  • HTML knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft syntax and terminology.

Our client is an international leader in innovation engineering and consulting; they have more than 8500 collaborators in 15 countries. Their motivated teams have accompanied clients worldwide in the deployment of their projects for more than 40 years, developing and integrating technologies for innovative products, production processes, and leading edge infrastructures.

For an international project involving France, Germany, the US and Asia, they are currently seeking a technical author in Automation Technology to join their team. The salary range is 30-40K Euros, depending on experience.

Your role would be to develop and author documentation for use and maintenance of automated products and systems.
Documentation sets include technical notices, user manuals, and online help.

  • Strong technical experience, with a background in automation (strongly preferred) or electrical or mechanical engineering, are sought.
  • Programming skills would be a definite plus.

In addition, we are looking for:

  • Strong experience in technical authoring and software tools
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Fluent English

All documentation is written in English with an eye to translation. French and German skills are a plus.

Function Description:
The Technical Writer produces documentation and training materials for our client’s information products.  This role is involved in developing and maintaining documentation, including support items for the knowledge base, as well as writing enhancements or updates for existing documentation.

Job Description:
The Technical Writer will produce documentation and training materials for information products, as well as testing training materials and documentation to ensure information is accurate and up-to-date.
A general list of responsibilities follows.  Precise responsibilities will be assigned based on candidate’s current skills and the needs of the department.

Responsibilities/Skills Required:

  • Research, write, and test original documentation and training materials to ensure technical accuracy and fit with house style.
  • Revise documentation and training materials to improve quality of content or to describe product enhancements
  • Create conceptual graphics, screenshots, and callouts using PaintShop Pro or Snagit.
  • Develop expertise in subject areas of responsibility including all Division and Performance Management products.
  • Convert source documentation to online help and validate online help.
  • Track information development plans and proposed bug fixes using engineering department Wikis and Bugzilla.
  • Perform final production on books, verify Postscript or PDF output, and transfer files to print vendor.
  • Provide peer editing and technical testing of material developed by other writers.
  • Develop useful and appropriate examples for very technical products.
  • Develop training exercises.

Salary: 100(+)K CHF or 63K Euros/annual
