Oman workshop on quality documentation

On June 26, 2006, the Times of Oman reported on a recent workshop that was held on quality documentation to examine developing, documenting and managing policies, and procedural manuals and guidelines.

This was the third workshop in the Oman Quality Training Programme, an initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education in cooperation with the Oman Accreditation Board (OAC). It was hosted by the Higher Education College of Technology.

The workshop was attended by approximately 50 people from the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Health, and several educational institutions.

Martin Carroll, consulting director with Oman Accreditation Council, provided an introduction to communication theory, elements of good policies and procedures, and key features of version control and dissemination systems. Participants discussed their experiences and challenges related to documentation.

There were over 20 integrated training modules on topics related to quality assurance and enhancement in higher education, including “Preparing a Self Study Portfolio,” “Curriculum Development,” “Risk Management,” and “Institutional Accreditation.” Participants were given materials and tools to enable them to share workshop content with colleagues in their institutions.

A fourth workshop on “Using Statistics in Reporting” was scheduled to be delivered the week following the Oman Times report, and the workshops are to be repeated from September on for participants from institutions of higher education.
