Adobe JamJar is an interactive, attractive, and scalable internet application based on Flex 2 technologies. JamJar provides a private, persistent work area for small groups to easily exchange digital content in order to plan events, exchange ideas, manage projects, centralize information, and share files including images.

Demo of Grokker search service

A service called Grokker is available as a demo to search Yahoo, Wikipedia, and Amazon. Although the demo does not search everything on the Web, it’s a useful tool in research, helping to aggregate results that are meaningful to the searcher.

The Online SIG has an extensive events calendar which is no longer accepting new entries. We are now announcing events in Hyperviews Online.  

If you are an STC member and wish to announce an event, please register on Hyperviews Online and ask the SIG Manager to make you a Contributor (contact information).

Please be sure your event is not already posted. If it is not, write a post and include the following information, in this order: month, day, year. name of event. place. URL for additional information. The Event microformat may be used for STC events. Your event will show up in the chronological posts on the home page, and be archived in the Events category. If your event takes place in the next 365 days, it will also appear in Upcoming Events in the sidebar.

STC website redesign

In her July 31 newsletter to members, STC President Paula Berger reports that the Website Committee and the STC staff are working together to redesign the stc.org website. They are looking for volunteers with extensive expertise in usability, accessibility, project management, gathering requirements, and/or content management systems. Hyperviews Online is back for August, after a partial hiatus in July to allow the Online SIG to support the ID-IA and ITC SIGs in putting their newsletters online. Work continues on web services for STC members and online meetings, and more volunteers are always welcome. (more…)

Online meetings published in Hyperviews Online

The Online SIG has gathered and posted some information about options for online meetings: an article, an STC Forum topic, and an STC Wiki project. John Posada is gathering information on how to create a podcast and we plan to publish that on the STC Wiki.

We are publishing chapter meetings in Hyperviews Online. For the first one, we have slides only. If your chapter has held a meeting you would like to have published in Hyperviews Online, or you would like to work on the Online Meetings project, please contact the Online SIG manager. Online SIG member Marcia Poulsen presented “The Three Topic Types — Concept, Tasks, and Reference — and How to Use them Effectively: Borrowing Best Practices from DITA” for the August 3 Central New York chapter meeting. The Online SIG has posted the slides.
