STC Competition in Europe supports education and collaboration
The 2006 STC Trans-European Technical Communications Competition asked entrants if they would let the competition team give their entries and judges’ evaluation forms to colleges in Europe that teach technical communication. They can then be used to help in the training of future communicators. About half of the entrants agreed and colleges were contacted in January.
The competition had fewer entrants than in previous years, but the quality and diversity of entries kept the judges busy. Entries came from seven countries, including for the first time from Africa, and in two languages (English and French). Judges were located across 10 countries in Europe and in South Africa.
The Best of Show winner this year is from France. The competition committee congratulates Ray Gallon of Communication Culture Technologie, which is based in the Hérault region of France. His online entry also won an Award for Excellence. Congratulations Ray!
The goals of the competition are to acknowledge excellent documentation and to help improve documentation quality in Europe. Our judges work hard to give entrants constructive feedback to help them improve their work.
The France Chapter hosted the competition awards event as part of its annual 2-day conference. Award certificates were presented and all entries were on display. The awards evening is free to everyone who was a judge or judges’ manager this year (another reason to be a judge!)
Thanks for Jennifer O’Neill for this report, posted by Nick Rosenthal on the ITC SIG email list.
