Technical writers in Israel have a thriving online community at http://www.elephant.org.il.

There is a weekly column called “Life as a Tech Writer” at that provides a humorous, but sadly true, look at technical writing. There is a column on “The Why of Style” and a proposed Code of Ethics for Tech Writers, along with articles on living in working in Israel in the face of recent hostilities.

STC and INTECOM September 2006

On August 11, 2006 STC sent an update to all members on the Society’s participation in INTECOM and on August 31, STC President Paula Berger reported more INTECOM news.

The Society for Technical Communication (STC) has begun active participation in the International Council for Technical Communication (INTECOM), an “umbrella” organization of technical communication organizations around the world. The INTECOM delegates unanimoulsy approved STC’s membership at the INTECOM Annual General Meeting (AGM) June 22-23, 2006, in Guernsey (Channel Islands).

INTECOM (International Council for Technical Communication, http://www.intecom.org) has accepted STC’s offer to hold their 2007 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 17-18, in conjunction with the STC Annual Conference. We look forward to welcoming INTECOM’s representatives from around the world in Minneapolis. (more…)

STC and World Usability Day 2006

STC President Paula Berger has reported that STC is participating in World Usability Day 2006 to help make the world a better place for product users, and all members are invited to participate.

Manager’s message September 2006

This fall I’ll be attending several conferences. I hope to meet as many members as possible at these events and in the areas where the events are being held.

I will be attending Lavacon in Kauai, Hawaii in late September through early October.

I will then be in London for the STC Board meeting and Region 2 Conference the week of October 10, and in Saratoga Springs for ICCC-PCS October 23 to 25, and in Boston just before that.

In November I will be in Weisbaden, Frankfurt, and Karlsruhe, Germany for tekom, and in Warsaw, Poland for LISA.

ITC SIG activities September 2006

SIG leaders are meeting by conference call in September to plan the year’s budget and projects, including activities at the annual conference.

More sessions on international topics are planned, and we hope many SIG members have submitted proposals. We will publish advance information about sessions as soon as it’s avaialable early next year.
