Message from the manager: Update and call for volunteers
I’d like to announce several activities the ID-IA SIG has been working on or will start working on soon. Our goal is to make SIG more active than it has been in the past couple of years and to tap into the potential our over 2600 members have to offer the SIG and each other.
To do this, the leadership team:
- Presented the SIG at the STC annual conference in May. We had our welcome table, promotional gifts, conference sessions roadmap, Information Design and Architecture progression, promotion of future SIG activities, and a SIG social evening out (thanks to David Caruso for organizing it)
- Created this new SIG blog-like website (thanks to Ann Wiley and Sean Cleary) which allows for more interactivity and easier posting. The website is ready and officially replaces the old one. Please update your Favourites list!
- Created a charter for the SIG for 2006 which has been aligned with the STC strategic goals. The charter is posted on the website. Have a look and let us know what you think. To do this, please use the SIG mailing list. If you are not subscribed yet, do so by visting the list website. The charter is meant as a guideline. If you have other ideas and want to go ahead with them, let me know.
I’d also like to issue a call for volunteers for the ID-IA SIG leadership positions. To achieve the goals and to make the SIG more active and thus be able to add more value to the members, we need your help. The leadership positions are listed on this website and detailed in the charter.
Note that the positions and descriptions are guidelines. I believe it’s important that you do what you feel is beneficial for you and the SIG. We will work together in precisely defining the scope in the next months.
Why should a SIG member volunteer? Lots of reasons, here some most of the obvious:
- STC is a professional membership organization. We need to make it successful together.
- Volunteering offers great ways of developing new skills and offers job enrichment.
- Volunteering brings new contacts and visibility.
- Volunteering is an excellent addition to the resume and portfolio.
If you have more questions, here are ways you can learn more.
- Email me (bogo_stc@bovacon.com) and let me know what you would be interested in.
- I’ll organize a phone conference where we discuss the charter, the work, and get the leadership team in place. To get the phone conference organized, I need to know how many lines I should reserve, so please do send me an email in advance if you would like to participate.
Looking forward into lots of responses, new ideas, and new volunteers!!
