Hi. I'm the current VP of STC Manitoba and I wanted to announce that our chapter will be co-hosting the fifth annual technical communication conference on April 14 and 15, 2008.

We're looking for speakers and welcome any abstract submissions from members. On behalf of the chapter, we'd also like to invite STC members to attend our conference if you'll be in or around Winnipeg on either or both of these days.

Conference website: http://stcmanitoba.org/conference/

The proceeds from the conference are used to fund scholarships for students in the Technical Communication Diploma program at Red River College. Two scholarships are awarded, one from the Society for Technical Communication, and one from the College.

Cheers,
Rachel

Nothing so far. Anyone know the status of the Saint John group? We're looking at a possible Halifax chapter, unless the Saint John chapter is viable. Dave (dave@nocturne.ca)

Further to the salary survey, I've recently heard that the move to using the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Employment Survey (OES) could be more like the opening move in a transition rather than the end of the line. I don't have any firm information yet, but this is what it looks like to the people I've talked to so far.

Stay tuned...

Sorry for not replying sooner -- I'm wondering how soon they're going to implement this, and whether/how we in Canada could start gathering our own information.

I noticed on the STC salary survey page that the STC has "converted" from doing their own survey to using statistics gathered by the US Department of Labor. While that might be more accurate for people in the U.S., I am concerned that Canadians will no longer have salary survey information.
